Restless

A restlessness engulfs my soul,

causing thoughts to wander--

Wondering about the past

and where my life will take me.

There’s plenty for my hands to do

and much to keep me busy;

but it doesn’t stop my mind

from churning on so many topics.

The agitated mind is not a place for concentration

nor a peaceful good night’s slumber--

Dreams cannot abide the life

of edgy shadows’ view.

Tenseness and tumultuous--

worried thoughts are running

Peace and lightness both are absent

in this whirring mind of mine.

The phantoms of “what might have been”

dance ‘mid thoughts of “what may be”

and restlessness engulfs my soul

‘til I commune with Thee.

A quietness pervades my soul

that halts the restless wandering.

My thoughts converge on what I know

and faith for what I don’t.

Be still, and know that I am God--your poem cuts through the chase to this verse from the Bible that takes into account what God would have us do in our confused times, only you have expressed in very well in poetic form. I am back on AD after another absence, Cryssa, but it looks like these absences could be the pattern of my life with all of my concerns thrown in, a few of them I admit similar to your own. But I'll always be back on AD, too, even though I suffer from irregularity. Tell me, does God address irregularity? Sorry about that--the loss of control is always on my periphery as you know if you're still getting any sustenance from my books--Jerry

You brought this to a peaceful ending, despite the tumultuous, but fun hayride you took us on to get here. I am glad you found your way out of the forest of this poem and back to greener pastures at the end. I was a little worried where we would wind up, as it sounded like your normal lioness pride had left you. Therefore, I left you a trail of breadcrumbs to follow, dear Cryssa, in case you lost your way!

Your friend,

Rockie

These are those moments when its just you and your mind. Being true to yourself has never been so scary yet the beauty of it is real. (Open the door to Freedom). Reminds me of when I used to lie to myself and show something different on the outside yet feeling something different on the inside. When I decided to match the outside with the inside, nothing was perfect but the peace and quietness in my soul kicked the restlessness right out of business. Thank you for this great piece Cryssa. Poetry is a beautiful thing!

Intense. It's sometimes so difficult to turn off the thoughts, particularly at night when we need to rest...the thoughts go round and round and never seem to stop. Well written piece, Cryssa. Hugs, Elizabeth

'a quietness pervades my soul that halts the restless wandering'

I know of what you speak when you describe the "whirring mind", and so aptly put. Oh, if we could just turn it off when the day is done...

Very nicely done, dear lady.

your final strophe finds the place of refuge and answer to all the aforegoing, Cryssa, and is a sure foundation for finding equilibrium and renewal. May you sleep safe and sure in the bottom of your rocking boat... xx

Powerful verses. So intense and so true here's my fav verse

"The phantoms of “what might have been”

dance ‘mid thoughts of “what may be”

and restlessness engulfs my soul

‘til I commune with Thee."

And the last stanza and last line wraps it up so exquisitely!

Dear Cryssa, It has been a while since we last communicated and I was thinking of you quite often. My grandpa used to say, when the water is cloudy, let it stand in the glass, everything will settle and it will become clear. You took a great task upon yourself and it puts you to the test. A good prayer will get you back on track. May the Holy Hosts guide you within yourself, send their help to all who are no longer with us on this earth, and to those who are with us and are suffering. Love, Emile

Very beautiful write Cryssa and its what so many go through...I found if I write first thing in the morning, I release what my mind and sub-conscious mind released during the night. Once its on paper, I try no longer to worry about it. Love and hugs, Bonnie
