Trying to be Whole

There’s a hollow in my soul

that came when I lost you,

and though I’ve covered up the space

I can’t seem to fill it up.

The pain and hurts of yesterday

are well within my grasp.

My mind can’t seem to let them go

so I can fill that gap.

The emptiness within my core

is often palpable

and demons of “not good enough”

invade my heart and soul.

My words don’t often speak of

what I really need to hear;

nor do they tell of what I feel

inside this hollow core…

for doing so would only show

my insecurities

and let you know that deep inside

I’m not completely whole.

So when I seek

your warm embrace--

the hollow of your arms,

Please know…I’m only trying to be whole.

When I seem to cling to you

and don’t want to leave your side…

It’s not that I am needy, really,

I’m just trying to feel whole.

And when I reach to take your hand,

or ask if you love me…

It’s just my way of asking you

to help me to feel whole.

I know that your affection

is not the way to fill the hole,

and healing of this hollow spot

must come from deep within.

Alone I cannot fix the ache

so on bended knee I bow-

while my trembling tongue implores,

“Please, Father, make me whole!”

This one took me to places inside my own heart and like a friendly guide, lifted a lantern to show me things about myself I might not face alone. Your poem reminds me of the power that poetry has of speaking truth and of healing and of the God who is.
Superb, excellent, wonderful poem!!

You cut to the heart of me with this poem, Cryssa. I would ask how much of life we spend searching for wholeness among the wounds of what has happened to us. Of course, it's a well-done piece of writing, too. The hole has contributed to the person that is because, Cryssa, I would never have to see your face to know you are beautiful---it emanates from your heart----Jerry

There is a hole in my soul and with that hole in my soul I cannot be whole. I can relate to what you express within your verses here, Cryssa. I am sure there are many others who can as well. Love and best wishes,

Regis

Afflicting soul getting inside the poets Muse and inspiring this poem that sounds like a prayer more than a sad wailing.
The remedy? a soft and tender hug.

Awesome. Such deep expression of emotion. Vulnerable. Felt this way before and you are taking the right steps. It just takes more time then they allow us it seems. Hang in there. You've got the stuff that it takes. Liz

Dear Cryssa, I really hope that this poem, which is a perfect description of a suffering soul, is fiction. I know very well the meaning of suffering and I don't wish to anyone to suffer.
I agree with everyone that this poem is a master piece. Love Emile

Oh Cryssa...this one spoke directly to me...this is how I feel daily...I have such an ache inside, and you describe it so well...makes me understand that perhaps I am not alone in this...no matter how much we love, are loved, there is still sometimes a hole...that needs to be filled...in order to be whole... thank you so much... I love it... hugs, lindalaw
