A poem inspired by many relatives, friends, husbands, and lovers who dedicate their lives selflessly in the defense of freedom country, and family, expecting and most times getting, nothing back in return.
Pondering Days Gone By
Now we ponder days gone by, speaking of yesteryear. Today seems
awry, with all its wiles and wonders. Good times so near, voices
so dear, unending laughter, in my ear, and little to fear. We
felt safe, loved and warmed because of those self- sacrificed
to harm. Some never knew reality’s repercussions that bore
history’s errors; unsung heroes that lived silent turmoil. Their
work was hard, their jobs endless; sacrifices paid for our
defenses. It, their personal cause and commitment, appreciating
cherished lives lost beyond requirement. Saving country, people
afar, must be hard covering the scars. Outwardly not shown
the devotion of their hearts for those buried slow. Ones died,
cried with their last breaths, “Mother”, children inside, forced
outside, where one older did hover. Now too late to act when
in the past upon our posteriors we sat? Show the world now, fiber
of which we are created, one all sacrificing for our related. The
world we know will someday pass but until, we shall fight to our
last, defending our principles, life and liberty, making our
country the great land of the free. Smart as our ancestors have
been, we will stand up tall and admit we are mere, mortal men who
without God guiding our land have not a leg upon which to stand.
