His plane departs at 7 a.m., so he has to be there at six.
We used to have coffee in the time it took to wait.
But now, he said “just drop him at the curb”,
And he’ll make it alone to the gate.
He doesn’t look back and wave at me;
He’s too important now, to kiss and flee.
He has a busy day ahead;
The hours for me, I start to dread.
I make sure his shirt and suit match his tie,
And all are clean and pressed.
He has to be impressive now;
He has to look his best.
I stay up late to make sure it’s all done,
And all the details are right.
He sleeps alone, upstairs in bed,
While I still run things through my head.
He doesn’t look back now, or call to me.
He has a busy day ahead;
While tomorrow for me, the hours I dread.
His plane tonight, again arrives;
They’ll be someone waiting to give him a ride.
He thinks only of how successful he’s been;
While her thoughts are still inquiring,
“What’s happened to him, within?”
He hasn’t got time to think or see me;
He’s far too excited about what he can be.
While she thinks of only, what next is to be?
Again, he will fly off to business somewhere;
While she stays alone, and waits patiently here.
It’s peculiar, how odd, that once, it was he;
Who was shy and inhibited, his self-esteem low.
Yet even more ironic that it was she,
Who skilled him, and coached him, you know;
She built his confidence high,
so he could achieve, and advance to this high.
Ironic, yes now, that the tables now turned,
Show her to be the one, who aches endlessly,
And feels burned.
He hasn’t the time now; he’s busy you see;
And she waits for what’s next,
While alone, her tears he won’t see.
