I wrote this poem for my daughter. She is a very special child whom I love very much, and who has been a true blessing to me.
Baby Girl
My baby girl, you are so much like me,
even though your eyes are brown, and your hair is curly.
It’s not hard to see, you’re more than just a girly;
you are a special one we all know surely.
Your talk, your mind, your attitude sometimes;
your stance, your stamina, and spirit say it all.
In how you do, the things you do;
it’s like looking into love’s reflective view.
You have that flirty prideful look sometimes,
as you flip your hair about.
The way you lift that one eyebrow,
to cast a shadowy spark of doubt.
You care deeply for the feelings of others;
though you are selective with your sisters and brothers.
Although you try not to manipulate,
time sometimes just doesn’t cooperate.
Your heart and home are always open,
for others to share with you a token.
And yet you receive many gifts,
your smile is a gift that continues, the spirits of others to lift.
Let this coming of age story of a boy named Bean take you back to a simple time. Set in a small southern town in the 1960's, encircled by a river and gleaming white cotton fields.
