Boom town to ghost town, Jerome

Cleopatra Hill, miners of Jerome toiled there

Earn a stake, move onto bigger, better

Twentieth century, still new

Young men would work Jerome's rocks

Employment steady for those with aspirations

Though not on the side of heady

Copper the quest of Phelps Dodge

Hotels and bars, there were many

"Cribs District" where action played 'round the clock

Houses numbering eight, kept men out late

'Twas along the alley across the street

From "English Kitchen"

"The Cuban Queen, "Cribs", houses of pleasure

Was the intent of Belgian Jennie, the Madam

The young miner's money, to have every penny

"Honky-tonk queen of the night"

She ruled the houses of pleasure

For Belgian Jennie and her ladies

Jerome's copper, was solid gold

For lonely young men, houses of lust

Should have been viewed, with more mistrust

Jennie's fate was later sealed

Four shots from her husband's gun

Three in the head

Laid her quite dead

Tales of her reign still prevail

Long after they lost their jail

A party to Jerome's mining travails

Life in the old mining towns was never easy, and often way to short...good write!

Have been to Jerome, hanging on the side of a cliff. Didn't know this history.
