In the memory of my friend, Dr. James Robert Carmean.

The Pacific wind has moaned

tears drip slowly from darkened clouds

laden with this day's laments

in Imnaha, fresh earth has been turned out

beside the halllowed site

his casket readied for interment

he awaits in repose

here shall he rest

in the clutches of eternity

no longer weary - nor worn

from the gallant struggle he waged

survival's option lost

forty years and more

we shared seriousness, laughed and cried

the trust between us, was heavy

diversity, give and take

cementing a common bond

his passing number two this year

number three in less than a year

on the list of friends and family

so rapidly diminishing

the once long list

now shivering in brevity's wake

I'll no longer parley routinely with him

relying on recall to revisit

good times

now always in the past

In Imnaha, I do not expect

to engage in

converstions above my whisper

for dust, convereses not

Sad yes; but truly a fine, respectful, and loving tribute, Jon. Love and peace to you my friend,

Your loss is disheartening, but so are the sands of time. My grandmother's funeral was attended by over a hundred, although she had only two children. My mother attended her sister's funeral, also with two children (already dead), still working at 96, attended by only three others. I was fond of her and visited whenever I could, but was too far away.

Jon, this is a beautiful tribute, so well written, above the masses. Your friends indeed have a friend in you!

So sorry for your loss, Jon; you are in my prayers and thoughts! May God give you the peace and comfort that passes all understanding during this sad time; I know all too well the sting of grief/death: lost our big, strong daddy four months ago, back in May; still miss him terribly!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. :( >tears! <

Tender and very touching, Jon, with, for me, echoes of Thomas Hardy...down all the years, ah the years...and the last lines here rich and deep and reverent.

Okay . . . I have not heard, or read, a more fitting tribute to a person who has passed away . . . Not sentimental, although I could see where you would have maybe like to venture there . . . No, yours was a lament and a memory, fond memories of an old friend, and that my dear sir, is the wonderful thing about your words . . .
