Death's Specter

As was true in my poem, " Ride of The Grim Reaper", Poe has sent me a special envoy from the Muse. To my friend John Flangan, thanks for the suggestions.

Primordial, lurking ever within me

shadowing each thought, each moment

without provocation surfacing like a banshee

lunging,thrusting in black light

of day or night

painting crimson with fear

my conscious,my subconscious

domination is complete

abject fear overwhelms me

tightly now, twist the tourniquet of faith

escape of emotions raw, is ebbing

tremulous, I gather blanket like about me

all tranquil thoughts, past joys

recall sweet embraces

rhythm of apparent normalcy returns to rule

though my psyche remains pallid

ambivalence has left a sweaty pool

death's specter has retreated like a bold coward

unseen, hiding out of conscioussnesses grip

awaiting another moment of opportunity

to strike at light speed

oh evil demon, evil seed

at my demise you'll rein no more

'tis then my opportunity for revenge and expulsion

shall be loosed upon you.

This Is Supreme Jon!
The Gallant Vigor of Presence & Claiming Ownership within this poem is Outstanding!

Jon I'm falling behind in my reviews...hopefully I'll be caught up tonight...reminds me not of Poe but William Blake "tiger tiger burning bright in the forest of the night what immortal hand or eye could frame thy fearful symmetry"...well not the sound but the feeling of the poem is definitely a tiger in the woods ...Great read Jon

Jon,
Thank you very much for the mention and what amazes me is what you've done with the entire poem after those initial eight lines we talked about, you took it to another level and yet consistent with the theme and developing it so so well. Truly great.

The grim reaper waits for no man, but we can delight in thinking that we've staved him off for a while.
