The walls echo with raucous voices
men of no discernable class
accompanied by their breaths
wreaking in overindulgence of wine
rum, ale and cheap spirits
at the tavern's threshold
of their own drunken volition
will they part with morality's guidance
and enter into the door
of the tavern of ill repute
refugees from marriages in shambles
seekers of illicit sex
sinners in the caravan of adulterous acts
awaiting in low lit cubicles
those that tempt a man's soul
on the seedy road to pleasure's
self indulgent ways
bawdyhouse women await
anxious to fulfill fantasies of delight
lewd females set to harvest men
in exchange for monetary considerations
the pick of the lot unable to count
the number of men her body has sated
morally inept playing the game of lust
ignoring the sin and shame
welcome one and all
to the tavern of ill repute
on occasion. As an observer, of course. This is so beautifuly
written, and so honest, that maybe it's not a bad idea to frame
it and hang on the wall behind the bar of a few taverns of ill
repute. For the sake of art and humanity. -gene.

Always hated ill-reputed bars where locals beat strangers senseless. Stayed out of those.

Very well written!
Waltzing to & fro
in legs from here to there
Surmising the smoke filled room

This is certainly telling it like it is, but beneath the facts and atmosphere you eloquently and so articulately outline I find a sadness and a desperation and can't help but feel sorry for 'the performers' in this tableau...I suppose that could be interpreted as condescension on my part but I don't mean it that way, there have to be more rewarding ways to redeem ourselves and raise our levels of consciousness.
This is a fine, strong poem and I read it with genuine pleasure.
