Hallowed ground markers.

Staid reminders, glimpses

of resolute, varying composition

script thereon

with and end, but no means

for they cannot portend

defend or ammend

time lines in and out noted

of absolution some read

while little else is noted

for now, in this venue

exists no cookbook, no menu

sandstone, rock of ages

albaster crosses

pledged only to inform

these rogue refugees

of trans-communication

for reformation has not been

granted unto them

just as forgiveness must have been

sought prior to this disposition

hallowed ground

stones, standing in indentured servitude

markers of moribund plots

whilst ye rest

A thought-inciting poem worthy of more than a single reading... ...well done, my friend. Love and peace to you, Jon.

My hubby's grave stone has praying hands on it. What he loved to do was pray, so fitting I give him this. I visit the cemetery often and cannot fail to observe the other stones. All are different and covering dear ones gone before.

I find cemetary stones inspirational, lives, people, years, the stone itself, their foreboding motto's! This poem inspired my heart Jon, Whoa! so deep that I felt a haunting echo...
R.I.P. I pray!

Jon - thoughtful meditation on what a niece of a friend of mine (when a child) called stone gardens. especially liked:

script thereon

with and end, but no means

for they cannot portend

defend or ammend

These lines perfectly express the finality of the words on cemetery stones. - David

Jon,
The permanence and enduring value of stone so well explored here....we are measured culturally and artistically by our architecture and our monuments, celebrated and remembered by our tombstones, and even when we step across a low crumbling wall we can't help but think of the hands and sweat that one time built.
This is a fine and passionate poem.

Stones hold so many mysteries, at least to me, whether they are ancient or new they invite questions and many times give so few answers...excellent write, Jon Michael.

For a multiplicity of reasons, stones endure to remind
the world of who we are and who we were, stones that sink
into the sands and stones that reach for the stars...

From the stone age on, we have marked our progress with the stone we had available. Now we are marking our place with electrons.

Stones: the dates chiselled on them do not tell the life that lived between them. Powerfully penned, Jon, well done.
