Above the hearth of destiny

resides the mantle of life

trophies resting thereon

emblematic of victories, defeats

curious blends, noble and not

the scarred, battered brass

we cherish deeply

for the passions of their challenge

obstacle, foe and paradigms overwhelmed

molded the glory of achievement

others glitter in flickering light

gifts of goals unworthy

yet each marking the times of our lives

starbursts filled with awe

let the dust of eternity collect upon them

shroud them for another time

when the children of our children

and yea,theirs too

may view them as curiosities

all the while

their trophies accumulating

upon the mantle of their lives

as opportunities stir

the mix of victories,defeats

noble goals and not

'til the dust of eternity lays

collected  upon them

above the hearth of destiny

You captured the essence of lifes many challenges always to attain a higher goal, sometimes failing...but always trying, as will those that follow us...collecting trophies of their own.
excellent, Jon Michael

Each person sets goals for themselves and the trophies that life gives us for succeeding means something to each person. In the secular world they show that we succeeded but in the hereafter the only trophy that means anything Is how we treated each other as we were trying to win these trophies.

Jon,
The opening pair of lines grabbed this reader and held him tight, and from there on the images flowed thoughtfully and seamlessly each one compelling and relevant, leaving me thoroughly satisfied as good poetry does... a wonderful commentary on values, legacies and inheritances. Bravo!
John
