The sun has come to play
in the apse this day
stained glass windows offering
prismatic color forms in dusty air
refractions rendering holy, holograms
angelic forms and Calvary's cross
dance in dusty summer air
pews filled with awed onlookers
inattentive participants to the sermon
a dedicated reverend solemnly shares
his didacticisms ineffectual play
motions stirring above
command every parishioner's attention
for surely, this message is heaven sent
let none of the faithful depart
from this place of worship
least he has experienced this event
let there be no laments
for the sun's dance rules the church
from an air filled heavy with
stirred dust in summer's arid air
Jon,
I like how you use light in contrast to the scene. It seems to breathe life into this church. I picture a small town and an old church building. Well done!

I love this poem, your eloquent imageries speak volumes Jon!
I read this twice, feeling MOST COMPLETE, being their as you saw this beauty unfolding around you/and everyone at Church!
Such a treasure I will "again" be happy to savor...

The suns reflections captured beautifully in your words.
I love empty churches because the stained glass is always performing. Most of the sermons I've ever heard were mere droning monatony in my ears as I focused on that beauty in the choir and wished she were mine.
Jon,
This is an excellent capture...calm, spiritually still but not stagnant or sterile, truly poetic, highly imaged...an atmosphere of sanctity above and beyond the setting. I love this poem.

Your solemn words ring so much reverent truth as I think back to the many churches I have been to and the one I visit now. So rich is this in God's love...
This reminds me of the many times I spent in church when I was a child, Jon. It reminds me of much more as well. Very effectively expressed. Thank you. Love and peace,
