The moon walks the night sky
coyote's serenade owns her heart
buffalo grass motions and whispers
to the sacred prairie wind
the saguaro listen for the rain
in this sky of endless stars
that no cloud wishes to grace
mountains hide in the nocturnal mystery
where vision claims few rights
in the circle of elders seated
the pipe of great wisdom is shared
the logs of ceremonial fire crackle
many minds search for the answers
pronghorn's numbers have dwindled
clay of mother earth once bore our corn
the sun has cracked and parched
now she spits the dried seeds back at us
a dance we must weave to please
the great spirit in the sky we must appease
our prayers we shall chant the night long
let us begin this praising song and dance
may the sky fill with tears
and cry with joy to cease the dry
This poem "No Rains Come" is deeply felt!
A keeper this will be, ( in my Jon A/D folder) as it filled MY own spirit magically!
Thank you for sharing what you thought you were NOT sure of writing Jon! This is amazing of the feelings they more than once felt, in their toughest of times, as hope had to endure in their lives!

Beautiful! Each image is authentic and perfect for the setting, mood and tone...you have taken me back to a once flourishing lifestyle and culture now sadly dwindling and marginalized. This is simply great.
