George Carroll's lovely poem, "The Innocent Butterfly", prompted and inspired me to share a butterfly poem I wrote several years ago. Thanks for the inspiration George.
colors smacking with neon impact
others delicate pastel showcases
each ornate design nature's originals
masterfully applied silk screens upon
wings fragile as rice paper in a gale
I know not their sexual persuasions
male or female matters to me not
only that in their erratic dancing flights
I find amazement delight and tranquility
as they alight upon the back of my hand
lighter than air and imperceptibly landing
without sight I should know not 'twas there
other senses useless as they flit to and fro
observing brings abundant joy, fascination
the beauty of such wonders feed imagination
life in infinite structure squirmy little worm
creatures great and small fly swim crawl
across the face of earth they sprawl
from the depths of oceans to mighty crests
their home a muddy pond,a straw nest
but I must confess,"'tis butterflies
that'll wrest my attention, imagination
from events ordinary to inane
Jon,
The imagery in this piece is fantastic. I got to the part about silk screens, and I felt like I was a rider on its back. I also like that feeling of freedom and independence that is forever linked with winged creatures. Hugs,
Sheila
I was impressed by the detail in this one, Jon, it was incredibly visual. It made me think back a few years to a time when my mom and i were on our daily walk and a seemingly normal bush came alive and at least 20-25 butterflies flew out of the bush as we passed it- it was SO beautiful. Thanks for bringing that memory back with your well-written poem.
Butterflies carry a little magic with them to share with all that see their unique and fragile beauty...enchanting poem, Jon Michael!
much peace and love dear friend, Carole~
Such wee beauties are the delight for many from the babe upwards.
To think that once we used to collect them, like a Philately does.
Nicely composed. I had never thought of where butterflies fly to too sleep.
What moves and impresses me most here, Jon, is the excellent match of style with theme and subject matter, the blend is quite magical, and your love for and appreciation of the natural and innocent shines through.
God's Pallette of creation, is well presented in all it's uniqueness, and the joy each one carries, light as a feather this poem takes flight. Blessings! Jasmin Horst
