it is the key attribute of value
credibility rules the gold standard
of humankind, man, woman, child
when we commit to walk in our own shoes
when the role demands accountability
yes we are all solely responsible
for our own actions
but when it comes to accountability!
in that critical moment most of us have
attempted to rationalize, look for outs
escape the harsh consequences
life doles out when we err in judgment
it’s then we cower and attempt to defer
stand your ground for it is far better
to seek forgiveness than to fail
to own up to the embarrassing
mistakes we make in life and the
heart rendering pain we cause others
when we hurt those we love and
cherish if we flirt with prevarication
to attempt saving face rather than
owning up and asking understanding
and moving forward, with love in our hearts
We are committed to walk in in our own shoes anyway. In which case we are all responsible for our decisions, good or bad and the consequences that follow.

Jon, you hit it on the head about forgiveness here. Forgiveness can only be sought if at first one acknowledges they erred. Sometimes it even may take a long time, even years for that forgiveness to come, I know from experience.
All we can do is do our part to acknowledge our mistakes and ask to be forgiven. The rest is up to the other party, whomever that may be.
It takes a while for hurts to heal.
