I had to write this since it still gives me many giggles.

Stuck on the Roof!

My first baby, how exciting this would be.
And as he grew bigger, he’d kick the daylights out of me.
The doctor said I’m going to have a boxing champ or at least an athlete,
For my tummy was so black and blue from all the kicking by his feet.

The nurses took me to the nursery to see something unusual about my son.
He was spinning around in circles kicking his feet as he spun.
His kicks were like karate chops, I stood watching every pound.
No wonder I was black and blue when I saw him spinning round.

His little legs like tree trunks and muscles from head to toe.
He never seized to amaze us as we watched him grow.
When he was only two, he started a love to climb.
Which got me into trouble every single time.

He would climb the TV antenna and go upon the roof.
I was terrified of heights; I’d rather pull a tooth.
But up the ladder I would go to try and get him down.
As my foot hit the roof, he’d go shimmying to the ground.

So there I’d sit for hours, hoping someone would see,
I was stuck on the roof again, and would come to rescue me.
Some neighbor always came to help, with smirks upon their face.
“Gotcha again did he, momma”? Which put me in my place.

This became my son’s favorite thing to do and I became his favorite toy.
Other than those roof episodes, he gave us so much joy.

I have a son who did similar things when he was a young boy...
His favorite place to sit was on a two inch banister beside our staircase. There was a 6-8 foot drop behind him. He would sit on that railing and rock. If we said his name or tried to go near him he would laugh and rock harder. I have always wondered how many guardian angels he had behind him holding him on that railing...and helping him to rock...
