Little Man in the Mountains

We took our little man with us to the mountains for awhile.
We weren’t even there 5 minutes before he made us smile.
As soon as we got there on our primitive land,
He said, “Where’s the cable?” that’s how it began.

He’s so little, he’s only six, and a month seems so long.
Were the thoughts I was thinking, hoping I was wrong.
What a joy he was each day when he awoke from sleep.
Being so excited about the deer, antelope and sheep.

He was so thrilled about riding the 4wheelers around.
He never complained, whined or made derogatory sounds.
The horses would come by every day to visit for awhile,
Watching Little Man’s exhilaration always made us smile.

It was unusual but Little Man ate everything on his plate.
When he went out fishing he put on his own bait.
He out fished the big guys like he was a pro.
When he was told, “its bedtime,” he never said no.

At the end of the month and it was time for him to go.
I knew I would miss him, he was my sunshine, you know.
When the truck pulled away he looked back and gave me a smile.
All the tears in my eyes came down and they lasted awhile.
