We all judge when a woman stays in an abusive marriage and question, "Why does she stay?" I don't know the answer but I do know she's suffered enough and should be loved and not judged. This is for someone who truly knows what this poem is about. I love you!

No More Heartache

You’ve let someone take away your love, your spirit, your bliss.
You’re empty inside remembering those feelings that you now miss.
They disappeared one by one as he took them away,
It began when you accepted abuse the very first day.

It starts with humiliation and progresses from there.
Then he starts breaking things dishes, trinkets and chairs.
If you accept all these, then the slapping and hitting starts,
It progresses from there until your left with a damaged heart.

Oh yes, I know the routine, the “I’m sorry, I’ll never do it again.”
But by then you are both sucked into the extreme violent trend.
You feel like a nothing when the first punch comes, you deserved it you say.
You’ve changed, your different, you were lost somewhere along the way

The more you give the more he devours until nothing is left inside.
You’ve lost your worth, your joy, but most of all you lost your pride.
You tell yourself to leave but for some reason you stay where you are.
You dread hearing his truck or him coming home from nearest bar.

In fact, there’s nothing you look forward to anymore.
You start shutting down, closing all the opened doors.
You start doing things by instinct and hopefully get through the day.
Hoping beyond hope that you don’t forget how to pray.

If you last as long as others have done,
You start waiting and wishing for your life on earth to end.
So you can be at peace, and finally go home to mend.
No more heartache, no more pain.
Just your God and loving Father, calling out your name.

A powerfully penned message that hits right in the heart... How sad it is that this occurs, and how sad it is that there are so many women who feel it is their fault.

Hey Bonnie,it just makes me feel angry that men can do this to women and think they could get away with it.Also it is a woman's fault for continuing to let the abuse grow on for much longer by staying with him.Once you made your bed,you have to lie in it.I think some women believe that they can't escape where in reality they can and all they need to do is take action by loving themselves and getting the help they need. When a man says to a woman "It will never happen again,I will change".That is the oldest excuse in the book. Some men do change their ways for the better, but others they just want to say that quote to have power over a woman and to manipulate their feelings. Its disgusting.

Hoping she takes a good look at her marriage, sees it is hurting her so much and others who care for her too. She needs prayers and to pray for God to an end of this situation. People can be turned around with prayers.

A sadly realistic picture of the downward spiral of spousal abuse. It is horrible to see how much there is, and how devastating it is to the victims. Hopefully, someone will see herself right here in your poem and seek help immediately.

I, for one, am guilty of wondering why a person stays in an abusive relationship; don't understand how one can put up with days/weeks/months/years of being put down, struck, verbally attacked. I've been there. It wasn't fun. Yes, they need love but abuse is not love...thought provoking excellence.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
