This happened in the 1996 and I could never talk about it nor write about it. This is the first time.

He came through this tragedy with a pretty bad scar but he is doing fine and is now the Comander of Northglenn Police Department.

From Fantasy Island to the Twilight Zone!

What a wonderful and joyous train trip to Glenwood Springs.
It was like a fairy tale seeing the beauty life always brings.
We laughed til we cried during the ride, because we were filled with bliss.
The conversations were hilarious so light like a lover’s first kiss.

When we arrived at the station a man approached I didn’t expect.
He had a look of extreme sadness, a look of pure agony and regret.
Your son’s been injured you must come with me and I will take you home.
I felt as I was leaving Fantasy Island and entering the Twilight Zone.

No, you’ve got to take me to him; I must see that he’s all right.
There I sat in the waiting room trying hard to get through the night.
I prayed so hard that night for strength from my Savior above.
His fellow officers were all around me, showing me comfort and love.

I begged them to tell me what happened to my beloved son that day.
They didn’t want to tell me but finally one of the officers began to say.
“All of us went to the shooting range to shoot in all our new guns.”
Jim was last to shoot, the gun exploded, it happened on his first run.

Finally a nurse came to me and said my son was now awake.
She tried to prepare me as we entered his room fearing I would break.
Blood was all over him, his face was swollen twice the size.
Oh no Lord, not his handsome face, were my heartfelt cries.

But I forced a smile as I grew closer to him and he half smiled in return.
“I love you Jimmy,” tears came, and I said, “Okay now it’s your turn?”
“My face is not that important Mom, when I thought my life was done.”
“For I have so much in my life to be grateful for, this hole is even one.”

“For it will always remind me to be grateful for the gifts God has given me.”
“I could have lost it all tonight, the love of my wife and the love of my family.”

Bonnie, it takes a very special human being to open his/her heart to strangers...although we are no more strangers for you in this AD of yours, we have became a part of your extended family.
Thanks for sharing, and tell your Cop not to look Jersey Ed's way.

Heartbreaking!! Glad he's okay now, but that piccy is so hard to look at! *OW* Can not imagine the terror, what you felt inside upon hearing the horrible news!

Very well penned!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. :(

((((Oh, Bonnie))))

I can't imagine - I take it Jim survived? What a beautiful response to your hurtful cries of NOOOOOOOOOO, I can't believe it. If more mothers and spouses (especially) accepted their mates after a life changing injury, the world would be a much better place. Powerfully penned, know this had to be painful to write. Well done.

(((((HUGS))))) love and prayer, Karla. :(

Jim an officer? Thank him for his service, for me.
