A Stinker of an Elf
Alfie, the elf was a real little stinker.
Who used his brain but was not a thinker.
He would put raw eggs in Santa Claus’ boots.
And sew all the sleeves shut on Santa Claus’ suits.
Alfie would tease the little elves and have them in tears.
He’d give them wedges and pull their long ears.
The more they’d cry the more he would tease.
He taunted them and totally disregarded their pleas.
Papa Elf had no idea what to do with his little elf son.
He’d ground him till doomsday but he’d be outdone.
For Alfie would sneak out through the chimney flue,
He’d stay out all night and sometimes the next day too.
So Papa Elf went to Santa for some sound advice.
On how to control Alfie so he might become nice.
Santa listened intently and told Papa to dress him warm.
He was taking Alfie on a ride, where he will be reborn.
Papa Elf did as Santa said and was waiting by the sleigh.
Santa and Alfie were flying off into the skies of grey.
The first stop was in an alley all dark and scary place.
There sat a boy holding a tiny girl with fear on her face.
Santa handed him a bag of clothes with food inside.
The boy first fed his sister, as his little sister cried.
Then they went to an apartment with no funiture at all.
There were 7 children sleeping from large to very small.
The apartment had no food, beds or toys of any kind.
Alfie felt such sadness and had no peace of mind.
Oh, Santa I’m so sorry for all the bad things I’ve done.
I never meant to hurt anyone; I thought it was all in fun.
I had no idea there was such sadness in this world today.
But when I see these children, I don’t know what to say.
Alfie changed at that moment and became the best Elf Santa had.
He strived to bring happiness, so no child would again be sad.

This is a memorable little story with a great lesson. I'm so glad Santa knew what to do with little misguided Alfie.

Like Fee, I know several children who need this special ride. Superb writing, my friend.
Blessings and love,

A lovely poem. What a pity some older children, not only little ones, can't see the light as Alfie did. Cheers! Liz
