The Leap Year

Being poor
gave away to rich dreams
and higher expectations,
higher than most dared to hurdle.

I was told
I raised the bar to high-

Men
their attempts to leap _
                                       _
                                             always fell short.

There was always the New Year
the potential
of resolutions and beginnings.

The ticking of clocks-
t-i-c-k-t-o-c-k t-i-c-k-t-o-c-k
time
ticking into past.

At the ringing of the New Year
a stranger's eyes held my gaze until
stride by stride and inquisitive eyes
swallowed the space in-between us.

Bending to whisper in my ear
sounds fell from his lips to mine.
The kiss
like the birth of a star
all consuming
paralyzing time-

His touch and mine,
were like velvet flames
which leaped, licked and flickered
as if it spoke a new language
our hearts could not deny

                                      the promise.

Full of promise and hope...it is how we and others respond to what is in front of us, that will decide the issue!
Trust your own instincts and intuition to steer a course ahead
