We watched the news,
we saw the horror,
we saw lives vanish,
there would be for them:
No tomorrows.
We knew
for us things would change,
the fight
for living a safe life would begin.
I tried to hold back
the tears,
the fears.
I tried to be a tower for my children
until one asked,
“mom what happened to those
people on the airplane?”
He was only seven,
how do you explain something
so tragic in simple terms
for a child to understand
without destroying his childhood?
I looked at him with tears
rolling down my cheeks,
with a quivering voice I said,
“they went to heaven.”
My son asked,
“you mean they are ok?”
My heart broke,
I swallowed the pain and said,
“ yes son, they are ok.
You see they died
instantly
floating to the sky
to a home we all long for,
to a place where there is:
No Hunger
No Fear
No Tears
No Sorrow
No Regrets
No Pain
You see son
the suffering for them has ended
and ours has only begun.
Today marks a day in history
for the war has begun.
My son then looked
with acknowledgement,
and to my surprise
he then wiped away my tears,
hugged my neck and said,
“don’t worry everything will be ok."
For a moment, I felt peace.

We sat there for hours watching the news
knowing that things would never be the same
for those chosen, for those families,
and for the rest of the world.
We may have lost many precious lives
on this sad tragic day
but oddly, we regained faith in so many ways.
out of the mouths of babes is what they say
and having this response from your son is the reason will all can go on because even if the world around you may be crumbling
it often takes the love of a child to give you perspective of what really matters
Take care my friend.
