A little history:
My friend Kathy has a friend that she has been very close to for eons of time. Time came when Geri's mother was in the hospital close to death. Kathy was very hurt because of the reasons stated in the writing. I wrote this after hearing the story....
Yesterday, Kathy and Geri had lunch.....not due to my writing, but because Kathy is the person she is....+

A Matter of Pride

How could she do this?
Shut me out of this happening?
She must know that I would want to know
I would want to be there to support her.

How could she do this?
She must have realized I needed to know
Not just for her, but for me as well.
I needed to know as to not break the seal.

How could she do this?
Break the seal of our closeness?
How can I be strong for her
How can I carry her through the rough tides?

How could she do this
Reveal to me after the fact?
She could have given me a chance
To say my heartfelt good-byes.

How could she do this?
She almost lost her mother
My also good friend.
She denied me the privilege.

How could she do this?
   Perhaps I should ask myself
How can I do this to my friend?
How can I not consider her feelings
What must she have been going through?

Our friendship means to much to me
We have been through some good times
We have been through some bad times
We have been through times that only we
                       understand.

My love for her far outweighs my disappointment
Friendships are a matter of sharing with each other
They are also a matter of forgiveness when it is needed
I pray that you will forgive my negative thoughts
                            concerning you

I put my hurts away and will not experience them again.
In return I know I have a friend for the rest of my life.
You are far too important to me to let my pride interfere
I love you my friend, I treasure our friendship, I forgive.

Wisdom is abounding in this poem. It's easy to see that you, Tina, would be a great friend to have. If we always took the time to see through another's eyes, friendships would last longer and criticism would fall by the wayside. Connie

Yes, a true friend shares the good and the bad. But sometimes they are separated by events that one doesn't feel comfortable sharing. Forgiveness is the way to healing and feeling better about you, them and everyone. Excellent. Liz

Tina, you showcase the struggle of forgiveness and understanding, the pain in holding on to bad feelings and the joy, the actual recommencement of that damaged section of life that comes with forgiving. We have all faced that struggle, and for me it was very real. I thank you for seeing it as important enough to write about and to share. Lovely job.

I'm glad you have put your hurts away, and give your friend the emotional support that she needs. Good friends always understand each other no matter what has happened.

Wonderful write!

A painful write but I believe friendship will prevail. Sometimes during difficult times we are not always thinking in the right frame of mind. My prayer goes out to the family.

Tina, as hard as it is for you not to be included at the time of your friends Mother's death, I'm sure there must have been so much hurt for your friend, at the time, that she was not thinking as clearly as she should have been. I know this same situation happened to me when my Dad died, I was so caught up in the pain, that I didn't feel like seeing or talking to anyone. All I wanted to do was to hold unto the minutes that remained to be with him. I guess I was selfish but I just wanted him to know I was there and that he was loved beyond ever being able to express to him. I'm sure your friend will explain to you when she doesn't feel so hurt and isn't in pain herself. Your poem is great...it expresses the feelings of how we feel when we are left out but sometimes, people are so hurt they don't want to even see their siblings. My deepest sympathy goes out to your friend.
