Inspired after driving past a charred spot on the interstate one morning shortly after a wreck had been cleaned up.
There's a spot out there charred to the earth
that marks the site of an angel's birth.
Yellow lines smeared where brakes did fail.
Pieces of metal where new wings did sail.
Memories crumpled, lying still on the grass.
Onlookers horrified, they silently pass.
Smoke lifting up and feathering in the sky.
Sirens overwhelming a new angel's cry.
Pinging of a radiator about to give in...
moaning for life...a silenced engine...
A great, dark warmth enveloping the scene
making it surreal...a meaningless dream.
Very strong shades of " The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald." ... by Canadian singer Gordon Lightfoot .
Great Imagery and visuals conjured up here Lori !!
Dear readers, this is my third book of poems, and inside are a special collection of what have turned out to be not only MY personal favorites, but also the favorites of many of YOU. Some of these have never been available in print before...
You have captured what I have thought for years
but could not put into words...
Amazing write!
