This is inspired by a news article about the tornado that struck Indiana on November 6, 2005. I live in Indiana and had a bonfire the night that this had happened. I live far enough that I did not know there was a tornado until I had heard it on the news. However, we were all outside and the warm night turned very windy and then the rains did move through. You just never know about anything in life... but when had we ever?

God’s angels lowered their wings stirring forth commotion.
The moon sighed and disappeared beneath a turbulent ocean.
Nearly 3:00 a.m. and all was still in rolling, southern Indiana.
The rains fell down, the hail flew ‘round like a twirling ballerina.

Indian summer’s warmth that pleasant night... hmmm, sweet sleep.
So many stars had lingered once before this dark cloud’s keep.
Dreams unawakened - never halted in their mind’s subtle track
they’ll never know happened and their loved ones can’t have them back.

Down like a bolt, it descended as the winds within it grew...
Those who survived it later sobbed that they never knew...
No warnings, no hesitations...only dreams disturbed one night
when the tornado fell upon them and served Death’s dark light.

Lives lost to the wind and lost to salvation on that November’s morn.
Lives lost before their time and lives lost before life was born.
Homes in splinters and possessions lost...lives gone in a sudden breath.
A fiend striking in the night...only to dig at grave’s dark depth.

A photo found some sixty miles away showed a man and is daughter.
Wonder who he was...had he made it, or had his soul sundered?
It was printed in the news...they asked "Who is this man?"
Why did the photo survive? What exactly was God’s plan?

We’re so small and insignificant to the grander scheme of things.
We’re gone like a grain of sand and wilt like butterfly wings.
