This was a 9 minute free write while at the carnival that I used to travel with. It turned cold and rained for the entire week and we could not open.
Listen to the pounding of the tumbling rains
cascading over cold metal and dark lights.
I wonder how empty the world would be
if it never stopped raining tonight.
The carnival is silenced and standing still.
Great stallions pause and hold their breath.
The generator's muted and the music's gone:
and empty grave of merriment's death.
Rain is pooling on the bumper cars,
the flags are whipping around cold and wet.
The wind will not ease up and tow the sun -
Her golden job, I think she did forget.
The carnival is silenced in this rain
that controls our actions below.
Listen to the pounding of the tumbling rains
bringing silence to the traveling shows

Written on my birthday on the carnival midway
Excellent poem. Brings me to that place because I have spent time on the midway. Not as an employee, though. But because rain is another favorite image of mine, I felt really close to this piece.

I've never yet been at a carnival were you didn't get ripped off by the exorbitant prices...
