Another year is upon us – to reflect and remind
What trials we’ve conquered and those left behind.
Some have moved on from a life here with us
This season has a way to warm us as only love does.
Though no snow may have fallen from celestial hands
We’re not lost in the chorus – we are our own band.
Think of those less fortunate lying bundled in the streets.
Those who have no food and shiver without heat.
Remember those soldiers burrowed in the desert sands
Wishing to make it home from the convoy – Humvee caravans.
Remember those policemen and those firemen too
Who’ve perished in the pursuit of protecting folks like you.
Some are lost on the meaning – some won’t say its name.
Not to wish a “Merry Christmas” just doesn’t feel the same.
It reminds me that I am human and helps me to share.
Christmas carols stir passions in a soul previously bare.
So, I wish you all Merry Christmas – be kind to one and all
A new year’s nearly upon us, and an old one’s about to fall.
Remember those less fortunate and family and friends too
From a friend who remembers to think about you.
Lori I love your poems and this one to boot. The way you think is very similer to mine and i would love to be able to talk to you. Your mind is like a clock it seems so simple and predictable but once you open it up and look on the inside you see things that are way beond your conprehnsion. If you want to talk I'm a great person to give advice.
Contraband Marriage, traveling along the hemline of loving after incarceration, is a love story written in lyric and free form, set in reality with a different ever after.
