Gone...Over...Done

I came home to an eerie silence.
Those hospital noises were a thing of the past.
The emptiness, filling the halls, is mighty
and the echoes serve as a muted overcast.

I sat my keys on the door side table
and let my purse drop right to the floor.
I stared at those pictures for what seemed like hours
but, framed images just aren’t what I’m looking for.

And during this particular moment
over all other moment I’d trod.
I saw that emptiness now in my life
and in that emptiness, I found it was GOD

Gone...
Over...
Done...

Gone were your breaths upon my neck at night.
Over were the dreams that we had once shared.
Done was your life and your journey here on Earth.
In the darkness, during my weakness...only GOD was there.

She opened her eyes midst the midsummer rain
And traced that painted, white line with her hand.
That wooden cross felt heavy in her grasp…
But it was there to mark this quiet land.

Tire marks still trace the asphalt
Of a rural highway’s cracking face.
Traces of oil still lingered as dew
And promised never to be erased.

And during that particular moment
She could feel her heavy heart begin to nod.
She placed that cross into the ground
And in that tragedy, she found only GOD

Gone…
Over…
Done…

Gone were those carefree afternoon joy rides.
Over was a young man’s life – true nightmare.
Done was his life and journey here on Earth.
At the accident scene…only GOD was there.

The lights went out one by one...
The fences all grew bare.
Silenced of the cheerful laughter
that had earlier been there.

A great wheel was silenced
over its diamond-plate plateau.
Emptiness is the grand performer
in this darkened, silenced show.

All children who are eternally young
balance on a great carousel mare.
In that joyous moment...
They know that GOD is there...

Gone...
Over...
Done...

Gone of this Earth, no waiting lines
Over are the tears loved one's had shed.
Done is their journey on this Earth
They only know peace and GOD instead

Gone…
Over…
Done…

GOD was there in all of this
By our sides and in our prayers.
Even though in emptiness…
GOD is always there…
