Once more, I find myself alone in the dark
looking into the fog for the faintest of life's spark.
But never do I find a light that glimmers more than most.
Usually I only meet a faint and waning ghost.
My heart is torn in twain at this very moment
That I'm trying in vain to eventually forget
once i was happy, for the light I had found
and held it to myself to not let it down.
I nurtured the ember and let it enter my heart
to grow from a glow into a moderate spark.
And I thought it would grow to consume
the heart of this poet...I never knew
That the light would extinguish so short in its life.
I was left alone once more...only shadows, no light.
Kicking at stones wondering what had I done?
Climbing too fast? Skipping too many rungs?
There was such a smile that lit this face of pallor
Now left to darkness...and a heart lacking color.
No red blood, no white hot spark. No rainbow within.
I find it in awe to consider love as one of the sins.
For who are we but mere bit players trying to one up
the person before us and the lives they had touched?
Each act in a play is connected to the one before.
I wish I could forget the past. For the past is nothing more
than broken dreams and promises scattered here and there.
I wish that dreams could all come true ...somewhere.
The dreams that I held on to have been pushed suddenly aside
by a lost man wandering and due to his stubborn pride
An end was sought for an beginning barely begun.
Leaving me alone in the dark...wondering, what have I done?
Once more, I venture out into this dark life
searching for someone holding onto a faint light.
And I will flock to the flame as though a miller moth
and embrace its promise like your favorite winter cloth.
Don't let the light go out on me just yet.
As long as there is one light, I can never forget.
That I once had a heart that someone said they loved.
I'm thankful for the push, but scornful of the shove.
I was pushed into life when I was down the most
and entered into a love where my heart became a willing host.
But shoved away in a blink of an eye, my head is still spinning.
No need to cry I was not loved...no more use in grinning.
