Over there in the distance I see the scatter of dust as the wildebeest run
Over here on the game drive vehicle I hear the cock of the hunters gun
On the other side of the fence I see a bird lift its head and fly away
From the front of the vehicle I hear a little boy laugh saying Daddy
can we stay
There is a sky above me that glistens in blue in the heat of the sun
There is a dam on my right where the fish once swam
Somewhere in the distance I hear laughter,
Back home at the lodge a small bird is thrown out of its nest in the rafter.
I see the day come and the nightfall
I hear the owl hoot and the cuckoo call
When we sleep at night we pray for rain, when we wake in the morning
we are thankful that the wind has blown it all away.
People come to visit and we wish they would stay but when they
are gone we are happy that it is that way.
Time stands still
and each of us has a strength of will.
Each day the great beasts of the earth walk while the great men of the world talk
Each new day brings promise of hope and rain
let them not ever cease nor us refrain.
