Love Poem

Through my old dim eyes

I see you, I see your heart,
I feel you, I taste you,
But I can’t touch or hold you.....

As the curtains draw to a close at 80
You must know I am living for you
I am strong because of you
I inspire and impress because of you
I love you with all my heart

Forgive me that I was a boy
Not old enough to stand or fight
I lost it all because I was a boy

Before the world met you, I knew you
I didn’t know where you were going, but I knew you were special
Before your heart was out in the open, I held it
I nurtured and protected it.
You trusted me with everything
You could do anything only because I said so

Looking back, I should have set the first fire
on your tender body
I should have been there through your pains
I should have grown old with you
Walking through the streets of China
and dreaming of all the places we could have
been to, I am sorry for not being the one

Through it all, you must know I love you now and forever.......

such a heartache is felt deeply

Your poem shows much regret, but it looks like you are making up for it by the poem, itself.

The ubiquitous "they" say that our biggest regret is in the things we did not do, but wanted to do. You have told us how it feels.

This is beautiful. I can feel the pain. The heartache.
