plan-shop it’s called,
plan-shop when teasing
your hair in little ringlets,
catching gifts by surprise,
each catalog page thumping with electronics,
each page ramped with silver conduits, projectiles,
miniature cavities filled by wires,
early urges shop-planned
for gratuities so smooth,
the volume must be turned way up,
the notion of quiet
stunned by bass.
the urge to bark, or sneeze, so
many grotesque knobs to be turned,
to be shop-planned,
headsets to be worn,
earlobes to be kissed,
pleasantries of excitation
rammed through credit cards and
easy access, till tomorrow
arrives and pulsing sensors
deplete sleep, eyes wide open
to the croak.
Superb poem Larry! I was just talking to a friend about how everything seems so noisy lately. You said it perfectly:
"the volume must be turned way up,
the notion of quiet
stunned by bass."
If you tend to believe romantic, passionate, masculine poetry is a thing of past eras, read "She Intrigues Me," and be swept away in the beautiful craft of a contemporary poet of love.
Thanks for sharing!!
