God Issues

the god-awful truth was poised before us
and most shielded eyes from fright,
others snickered, passing by carefully
among the thorns.

all too real the parade at sundown,
no one should play god even
for a second, yet there it was.

longitude conspired against the southern
breeze, stopping it near the state line,
and shutter-bugs clicked away
to our disgust.

but Jeremy’s parents helped him escape,
the crown causing some pain,
but they soothed him with a promise
and a six-pack, he loved beer.

maybe now he could scrape away
the jesus image plastered on
magazine covers, maybe then
he could resurrect his career.
