watch your mouth, tuck
your eyes into their sockets,
and when someone smiles,
keep to the sidewalk, head down,
cap brim low.
hard to find the right mood now,
so many out of work, their
lips curled like broken scabs,
their eyes wide, opening
to find error, some odd way
you look at them, some
irregularity about your features.
maybe you’re Asian, perhaps some
party boy from the burbs, looking
for women, so what?
you’re an easy target, don’t get
popped, it could happen.
