before all the heartaches,
before our children discovered rap,
before streets were drive-by scenes,
there were neighborhoods,
those places with front porches,
not decks,
where kids played Monopoly
and read comics,
and where hide and seek
did not involve guns.
those days, I mean, when
time went on forever,
when birds sang loudly in the trees,
when dusk had a romantic sound,
when each day promised love,
and when a trip for ice cream
meant walking to the soda fountain.
The songs and art in this book are about our collective emergence after the pandemic and trauma of the last few years - comprised of 5 collections: World as Refuge, Where We Live, In Our Hands, Rhythms of Change and What We See & Sow.
