This is about my grandpa who past away when I was five. At his funeral I didn't understand and tried to wake him up.

"WAKE UP PAPA"
THAT'S WHAT I SAID WHEN I WAS FIVE
HOW WAS I TO KNOW
HE WAS NO LONGER ALIVE

I REMEMBER SITTING ON HIS LAP
AS HE READ A TALE TO ME
HE MADE ME FEEL SO SPECIAL
AS I SAT THERE ON HIS KNEE

HE'D SHOW SO MUCH INTEREST
IN THE THINGS THAT I WOULD DO
EVEN THE LITTLE THINGS
LIKE TRYING TO TIE MY SHOE

I REMEMBER THE SHIRTS OF FLANNEL
THAT HE'D ALWAYS WEAR
AND THINKING HE WAS SANTA AT CHRISTMAS
BECAUSE HE WAS ALWAYS THERE

WITH HIS BIG ROUND BELLY
AND HIS JOLLY LAUGH AND SMILE
THAT ALWAYS MADE ME HAPPY
FOR JUST THAT LITTLE WHILE

NOW THAT I AM OLDER
AS I LOOK BACK AT THOSE TIMES
I WISH THAT HE'D WOKE UP
TO BE THERE FOR ALL MY GOOD TIMES

AS I LOOK BACK AT THOSE TIMES
I FEEL BOTH HAPPY AND SAD
WISHING HE COULD BE HERE
BUT REMEMBERING MAKES ME GLADE

"WAKE UP PAPA" MAY HAVE BEEN
THE LAST WORDS I HAD SAID TO HIM
TILL I SEE HIM ONCE AGAIN
THEN I'LL SAY "I LOVE YOU PAPA"
I WISH I'D SAID IT THEN

This one made me cry both when it happened and now reading about it. I miss him too. He was a good man.

In the Whirlwind by Tichaona Chinyelu

In the Whirlwind is a poetic storm that frees history from the cages of corruption and puts it in the hands of everyday people. Words are weaved into a new fashion statement that has nothing to do with runways but everything to do with projects!
