A ghost

My wife and I just suffered a great loss, as we lost our first child to death
We had to get away, so we took a much needed beach trip
Our little girl was stillborn, she wasn't able to even take her first breath
So sad my little girl, to take death, it was her first sip.

Walking along the beach, on the pier we see a little girl, looking so forlorn
She seems to be crying, as she looks at us, I can tell she is in some kind of distress
She really looks like from life itself she was torn
We go to her rescue, we want to help her, no questions asked, as she really seems to be in some kind of mess.

As we get close to her, she looks at us with big sad blue eyes, with tears rolling down her face
We ask her if she is lost, does she know where her mother may be?
I asked her how did she get lost and end up here in this certain place?
She just shrugs her shoulders, we will help her try to find her mother, for the child to be happy again that would be the key.

The child follows us very close as leave our private beach
At first she hesitates, but soon we see a smile appear on her face
It's so strange, she never utters a word, maybe she has a problem with speech
Soon on the public beach, looking and looking, but whoever the child belongs too, there isn't one solitary trace.

We spend most of the day trying to find the child's family
But to no avail, we could find no one that knew about the child
With her sad eyes, you can feel the child's heartfelt plea
The child seems to have calm down, my wife and I decide to keep her with us for awhile.

Soon dusk appears as the curtain of night starts to fall
We soon notice the child is no longer walking with us, it's like from us somehow she was banned
We never knew her name, but for the child we continue to call and call
Then we notice behind us and beside us there are no footprints in the sand.
