I loved you once when we were young
Laughter and joy when songs were sung
We believed our love would forever last
Throughout our lifetime moving so fast
Regrets and hurts we had a few
But we always rebounded, our love renewed

I loved you more when we were parents
To our children the heirs apparent
Your motherly instincts a wonder to behold
Patience and understanding, attributes of gold
To provide a safe home for those within
Until tomorrow comes again

The years rolled by like a thunderstorm
Two lives ripped open and transformed
A sudden lighting bolt strikes deep within
And jolts the couple from their comfortable den
Trust wanes and doubt ensues
To destroy the memories once imbued

Secrets burst like an aneurysm uncontained
Lies and deception threaten love reclaimed
Emotions drained from lifeless forms
Distorted memories swirl in a maelstrom
Two people caught unawares
By life’s cruel twist that ensnares

Nothing but silence and stares between
Define a relationship once pristine
Each one assuming the role of victim
Created by Father Time’s inevitable system
God take our sins and wash them away
