Waves crash on the shore not to ignore
The rocks below which long ago
Formed volcanic peaks sailed by Greeks
Who armed for war and all its gore
Commanded the sea with joyful glee
Conquerors of nations with exhortation
The empire extended not unintended
To subjugate and enslave entire enclaves
And build Athenian culture from agriculture
To enlighten a race of commonplace
To works extraordinaire without compare
Glorious architecture without conjecture
A tribute to gods and Hesiod
With works of art to impart
A learned society with much piety
Displayed in stone, a metropolis reborn
Philosophers and teaches, poets and preachers
Extol knowledge and truth with many a youth
A paramount of virtue that no one can argue
Extravagant and gracious, the sublime and spacious
Edifices pointing skyward, a permanent record
Of a Camelot grandeur that still endures
To this day as if to say
We once were great without debate
