Anger and love both incite
People defend with all their might
Relentless epithets designed to harm
Where once two people chose to charm
Polar opposites blur forbidden boundaries
And leave both hostage and in a quandary

Why must relationships be so intense
That we dare to instigate and become incensed
Emotions ride a roller coaster inside
That lead to abuse and diatribe
Why must we protect what we don’t possess
Self restraint can be elusive at best

Why not try a different paradigm
Love for each other instead of slime
Silence replaces verbiage intended to insult
Laughter deflects criticism between two adults
Love of self repairs the hurt
Inflicted by two defending their turf

I implore all people to unite
Build strength together and forget the fight
Live by the golden rule and surrender your pride
Do not be ashamed to become allied
Set an example for others maligned
Transform malignant intentions to those more benign
