People come and go
Like a river flow
Swept away by swift current
Isolation is no deterrent
Against hellos and goodbyes
Hugs, kisses, weeping, and cries

Some we remember well
Touch our hearts until we swell
A kind word that relieves the pain
Of loneliness that corrupts and drains
Our total being of comfort and peace
Family and friends our love increased

But if we’re brave and choose to share
Ourselves with those for whom we care
Rewards are plenty and constant
For those who choose not to remain silent
Profess your love to those who matter
Forget the others who desire to chatter

The choice is ours to make
Live alone and disintegrate
Or reach out to someone you love
Treat them like a gift from above
