TV evangelists, you’ve seen them before
Exhortation, hyperbole, and a little folklore
Miked for sound they strut around
But the preacher man is not to be found
Instead a parade and parody
Of God’s true word in jeopardy

Preacher man where are you now?
We need teachers that elucidate the hows
Gone are the days of repentance of sin
Now replaced by big bands with their own spin
Church steeples are a thing of the past
Auditoriums proliferate and now broadcast

A service for everyone to make you feel good
Slick brochures and PowerPoint replaces the shoulds
Hardwood pews holding families together
Give way to field houses where one sees forever
Strong words a thing of the past
Psychobabble now comforts the outcasts

Forgive me, but I’m missing the point
Why mega churches refuse to anoint
Those who profess their daily sins
Must wait with the masses till the circus begins
Give me back the preacher man
Who tells the hard truth and takes a stand
