Droplets on the window pane
Run effortlessly across the glass stained
Repetitive sounds lull me to sleep
Eyes closed I choose to keep
Silent as the rain pours down
From open skies across this town
Water splashes heard below
As cars continue to come and go
Repetitive sounds that pull me within
A surreal world only imagined
Fully conscious yet mute
I try to think but fail to execute
Mesmerize me with your sound
Water trickles all around
Sleep’s impossible because I’m transfixed
Upon nature’s pyrotechnics
Claps of thunder shake the ground
Awaken my spirit like a lover’s rebound
Sleep comes after the rain stops
Eyes flutter wildly like a turboprop
Dreams envelop my consciousness
Tear apart my defenses from this fortress
Of vulnerability I must concede
Rain renders my senses like tumbleweed
Each person is but a grain of sand resting beside the sea. This thought sets the tone for Jill Eisnaugle’s latest poetry collection, Beside Still Waters.
the third verse the best
read like "now i lay me down to sleep"
