Childhood memories of living in the country
Country Living In the country where the fields are long the grass is green walking through pastures and paths unseen Birds are singing up in the trees the flowers are pretty but avoid the bees. April is coming trees a’ bloomin’ farmers are planting seeds in rows hoping and praying that something grows. I like chicken and sweet potato pies sitting on the porch swatting flies. Fried fish on Fridays with slaw and tea after church dinners were best for me Saturday’s for fishing down at the pond baiting my hook and throwing it in nothing comes back except the wind. Yes, country living is made for me sitting under the old oak tree enjoying the shade This is living I got it made…. (C) 2010 Lavendar-Jazz

And I was country when country wasn't cool, too. Feeding the chickens, milking the cows at 5 am, cleaning out the chicken coop ... ewwwwwwwwwww ... helping with all the meal preps, and making sure the men were comfy. Then after all of that if there was time, we sat and relaxed a little. but on Sunday nights, we watched Ed Sullivan, tired or not. Grandpa told funny jokes, uncle Johnny worked at the air force base as a reservist, aunt Caroline worked at the drug store, and grandma Dolly cooked, cleaned, and cooked some more. I would trade all that I have now for those days back again, because country living is the life for me. This was all before the dark days came. Thank you for sharing.
