A MATTER OF HEART ©
I've too much anger in my heart,
Against the man.
Sometimes I wake screaming from
Brilliant dreams of drowning,
Pulled under by the pale hands of
Chalky demons.
I'm burning from the inside out-
Consumed alive with boiling heat.
Sometimes I wish I'd been born blind,
So I'd never know that look -
That glow inside their eyes,
Telling me that
Justice is a bright eyed whore,
Who holds a gun to our heads and lets
Her lover steal our virtue.
And, she’s his laughing girl -
Laughing.
I have too much anger in my heart.
I love Jesus.
I wish I could turn the other cheek,
But they've both been slapped,
And could I stand another blow?
Hate begets hate,
And I am the bastard child of my
Planter master and
Dark Mammy,
Who birthed me in the thorny, cotton field singing
“Swing low sweet chariot..."
With a be-box beat.
I believe in redemption,
Like Marley and the Wailers sang.
I know God loves me,
And will forgive this indiscretion...
I am trying to learn
To love
To quench this burning.
But you see,
I have so much,
So much
Anger.
