Lost: Friend Never Found -- Answers to Brownie [for Prehus]
Hi! My name is Brownie, and I am one foot two
with more white spots than I can count
on reddish-brown hair some say is falling out.
I will eat anything. Some say it’s a fault.
I call it not being finicky. Hamburger’s good.
Or I can go veggie. ‘Long as no celery’s involved.
I love kissing, hugging, and do a mean fox trot.
Any dance, any time. Got the moves, hoo-HOO!
I love long walks followed by a long cuddle
on a none-too-clean couch with. . .how ‘bout you?
Give me a chew toy, and I’m good ‘til dinner,
though if no one is looking, I might taste a chair.
I can be trained, I feel sure. In time, anyhow.
Meantime, always spread newspaper, arf, arf.
Make it lots when I’m hitting the water.
What kind of friend am I looking for?
Someone who will love and adore me!
Short, tall, thin, fat, I don’t give a whoo.
Smart or a Milk-Bone missing’s awrrrrright.
Just let me cover you with slobber
and sleep in your house. Tonight!!
The ad you see above was found at the pound
after the animal was carried whimpering and yowling
to the death chamber we set up. Isn’t our fault.
Who wants a mongrel with a crooked tail and bad hair
even if he is loving and is not one to growl
when not on guard. Way the cookie crumbles,
Bad joke--? Sorry. Person has to harden
to do this job. Hope the cutie in the next cage
has better luck. How ‘bout you? ‘Like dogs?
Puddles doesn’t live up to her name, I promise.
Oh.

Presus Jones may not like this one bit. She is a rescue dog.
Through the years, I've gotten all my animal either from the shelter, or families that needed to place them or otherwise leave them at the shelter. One exception was a cat who came to my front door one day, and didn't leave for 21 years.
So terribly sad, and so terribly true. Kudos for posting this, Phyllis. I volunteer at a shelter from time to time, and it breaks my heart to see all the throw-away pets in America. And I will take a loving 'mongrel' any day of the week over a pure bred. Have two adorable shelter mutts at home now, and more shelter 'unpedigreed' cats than I care to mention.

Phyllis, tell Brownie I want the next dance. If he will give me his paw, I will give it my all. Do you have music for the "Tennessee Waltz" and will you promise to sing it for me. Hugs Bill
Phyllis, this is, suffice to say, heartwrenching, a write that Rufuz did now want to listen to, though the above will never happen to him, they can take me and put me down before I will allow him to be murdered...he came from a no kill shelter in Ocean City, NJ, they had him 8 months prior to our adopting him...and he has been a joy ever since, well maybe not all the time but...keep posting, double spacing reads better anyway...Peace thru No Kill Shelters, Ed & Rufuz (w00f)
