For simplicity's sake, I elected to fictionalize this, but only re the fact that Nick & Shoog own two of us. Ray is probably their fave, but they like me well enough. One might even say too well. ~~~ Naaaaaa.
Nicky and Sugar {Nick & Shoog, e.g.} are
wonderful. Tie us down a lot, but. . .w o n d e r f u l. ~~~~ Thanks for stopping by. Hope 2006 brings you everything you hope for, and more.

Welcome to Doggie World
Too late to rescue my dogs from Dog Haven Not, I key into the house to find Peace and Quiet. No Nick jumps all over, slobbering and running a major doggie Guilt Trip. No Shoog is running a Doggie Commentary under Doggie Breath. Not treated to Nick raising his leg to let go on a chair a minute after returning from his appointed rounds out back to be sure no shrubs are still alive, no squirrels and deer remain unharassed. Shoog doesn't squat hither-and-thither to add her mark. The house is so still. I can read and write. No click-click-clicking claws, no whine-whine-whine for just-one-more-please-one-one-one-more-treat. No one is lick-lick-licking the hearing from my ear. No one is shlurp-shlurp-shlurping the Jergens off my face. No doleful-soulful-ever hopeful four eyes remind that two Someones are suffering from doggie ennui and curiosity is killing them as to why I dress and undress. NEVer get enough to eat. NEVer get to run in and out every other second. NEVer have filet minon, as is every spoiled doggie's right. Speed-dial on their cell phones will not work since SOMEbody fiddled with the buttons. SOMEbody soon to hear from the ASPCA. Better believe, two brown eyes and two blue [one blind, and don't think Shoog doesn't use it] chide. In the morning, no wet fur muzzles and lapping tongues and pouncing paws will serve as my alarm. No one will eye my breakfast like it has been jetted first class from a five-frog hotel. No one will aggravate me into inventing new words, (PC's reportedly being machines). H E L P. Dropping everything, I grab my car keys and dash for the kennel for two very doggie-grateful, dancing, licking, jumping, leaping dirvishes and bring them home to give the place pizzazz. Spell it how you like. A r f !! A r f !!
Arf, Arf, indeed, Phyllis - and no matter how they often seem to go out of their way to aggravate us - we simply could not live without them. I know I couldn't; and I truly love this piece.
My cat allows me to live in her home as long as I keep her food bowl filled, litter box clean and water fresh. She rules the roost and I can't help but coo all over her. We love them and we learn to be the masters they have always dreamed of. It is really funny how they figure our the one thing that will annoy you enough to get you out of bed and into the kitchen to feed them their morning snacks. This is a great write, Pea. Pets are the guilt givers, and they know their craft so very well. Happy New Year to you and hubby as well as the two little ragamuffins.
Take care,
Sherry
Dr. Phil will surely want to use you for the Pet show scheduled on Oprah! The segment is on Pet owner Guilt for leaving cats and dogs at the shelter and Guilt for dreaming about red FIREPLUGS and reading Yellow River by I.P. Free! Ha! Happy New Year, Pea!
I know the feeling, Pea. Our pets become family and I know as much as my dog aggrevates me some times, I would miss him terribly. Hope you've had a great Christmas holiday. Hugs.
((((HUGS)))) and love, Karla.

Very nice poem, though
