Isn't new, but it's new to AD. Reason I never posted it is. . .I don't know. Like a piece torn from a child's heart, and that child just happened to be me. To be perfectly honest, when Dancing Still won the Dan Sullivan Memorial Contest for poetry (this was back awhile), I thought, It wasn't me, it was the angel I was writing about. I have since written other poems about Patty and her angel mother, but this one comes close to saying it all. Best I can do to explain. Always, and Then, Phyllis

One moment you were on your sagging porch
cavorting to the sturm und drang of an August
strangler. Cymbals clanged and thunder clapped,
telling us it would be your final performance.
Telling you? Rain! you sang with all the voice
you had left. Rain!! God, but I love
a good storm. Lightning pale and lightning
thin, light as the wisps of mist-silvered hair
framing your leukemia ravaged face,
you electrified. Ravished coal sky ogled
you through a net of catch-as-can-patched
screen, only light an eke from your kitchen
and the pyrotechnic glow that was you.
IS, this rain whispers, then taps in Morse code.
No more florist daffodils and horrid pink
satin. Still laughing, still shining, still a star....
Reluctant to go in, I jump in a puddle,
let water stream until thunder applauds.

This brought back the memories of her lying in her hospital bed, ravaged by lung cancer, and slowly drifting away from us. I can see why this won such a memorable award. You have given us all something to think about. Thank you for sharing.

Your style then was tighter, Pea, more image heavy but still had the 'Pea Touch', that way thoughts and feelings are delivered as if by mail handed in at the front door.
This is strong and vibrant and very worthy.
David Hightower’s lyrically expansive meditation on the whims of fate and the unpredictability of the human condition fill the pages of THE HANGING MAN DREAMS with thrilling music and mesmerizing imagery. Hightower’s richly infused voice echoes the e

Robin Ouzman Hislop's poetry is certainly in dialogue with some of the key architects of the 'poetics of indeterminacy' – both the Modernist strands represented by the likes of Beckett and Stein, and the postmodernist strands represented, initially,
