I Saw Your Face

I Saw Your Face

 

Graveyard tombstones.

Losing their identity

to the wind and the rain.

You were there.

 

A nameless headstone,

long forgotten by relatives,

is a surrogate

for the one you never got.

 

I saw your face.

It shone in the sun

that crept through the trees

reflecting your image on the grass.

 

We talked,

just like before.

About how it was

and the things that never happened.


You have a place now.

A memorial,

on this Memorial Day.

I saw your face.
