Neath the stars she sat calmly beside the river
The rhythmic beating of her heart
In perfect time with the native drum
She tapped with a doeskin wand.
And she chanted into the cosmos,
Her voice lifted to the stars upon moonbeams.
She called out to the spirits of her ancestors
Knowing they were all listening.
She had kept her love a secret,
Now the time for truth had come!
And she sang to every soul that had passed
That they be the first to know!
And the stars twinkled, and the moon blushed
With the passion she sang to the night!
The drum echoed into the trees,
Her sweet melody danced upon the river!
She thanked all that is good,
Her heart overflowing with love
For the man she had adored beyond yesterday.
The one who would be all her tomorrows!
